Guard Booths: Features and Design

Aug 21, 2019 9:00:00 AM / by Michael Witt

An armored guard booth is an essential element of the overall plan for security at your nuclear facility. A custom-made security guard house will protect your employees and your infrastructure. You can select features such as security windows, cameras, locks, and spotlights to meet your facility's particular security needs.

Security buildings provide the first lines of defense against terrorist attacks. If your current security guard house system is outdated, you are leaving your facility unnecessarily vulnerable to attack. Upgrading to a state-of-the-art guard booth system will improve your security personnel's ability to defend your facility.

Security Building Features

A guard shack should provide for the reasonable comfort of the guards who use it, including features such as adequate ventilation, protection from the glare of headlights or the sun, and personal storage spaces. The design of the guard shack should also make it easy for guards to talk to visitors, which helps the guards assess more accurately whether visitors have a legitimate purpose at the facility.

Security buildings that have a solid, strong, and well-designed appearance convey the message that your facility takes security seriously. These security buildings act as a deterrent to those who might otherwise try to breach your security system to gain access to the facility.

You may also need advanced features that provide additional protection for your personnel.

Guard House Design Requirements

A prefabricated shelter system may be turn-key or custom designed. Either way, a security guard house should have some minimum basic features. Depending on your climate, you may need the prefabricated shelter to be insulated and climate controlled. Most security buildings will need adequate lighting, doors, windows, and counter space. They will need connections for electricity and internet access.

For maximum protection, your guard booth can be provided with advanced security features including ballistic glass and ballistic-rated enclosures. Kontek also offers proprietary designs for elevated, mobile, and tower security buildings. Every facility has different needs. We invite you to talk to us to find out what combination of features and design elements will best protect your facility from terrorism and other threats.
